i’d never felt comfortable or confident lifting weights! I wanted to learn how to train and how maximise building muscle, so i joined CMP
What were the motivating factors in wanting to achieve these goals?
Hitting my 40’s was a bit of a turning point. When you’re younger, you worry and think less and exercise isn’t as important as other things you want to do in your life.
Suddenly, i found myself thinking about how to stay in shape for the rest of my life and to be able to enter into my forties feeling fit, strong and good in myself.
As i said, i’d avoided lifting weights in gyms mostly because i was completely unsure of what i needed to do. I searched online and cam across many different exercise programs and orders, but were they right for me?
I didn’t know! I wanted a clear plan that was built around where i was starting from so that i could achieve the results that i was looking for.
Lifting heavier weighs always felt like there was more risk and i wasn’t sure which muscles i needed to train and how often to actually build muscle.
Hi Rob, Would you like to introduce yourself?
Hey i’m Rob, a 40 year old busy professional living in Sheffield.
Why did you reach out to work with CMP, what were your initial goals?
My initial goals were to feel comfortable and confident lifting weights. I’d always felt undersized but didn’t no where to start with building muscle so often stuck to using running and outdoor activities as my form of exercise.
I wanted to learn how to lift properly so that i could avoid injuries too!
Can you tell us about the results that you’ve achieved with us?
Sure, i actually started to see strength improvements pretty quickly and actually hit my weight gain target that my coach, James, set for me within 8 weeks!
I was eating more than i every thought i would be ‘allowed’ to on a get fit program and i’ve learnt so much about how to train and food in particular.
My fitness has actually improved too, even though i’m bigger, heavier and stronger, my fitness hasn’t taken a backward step so i’m feeling good all round!
what impact have your results had on your day to day life?
Massive, really. Obviously i’m stronger, which makes my line of work easier as i have a physically demanding job and i’m on my feet for the majority of the day.
But the biggest impact is confidence in myself and confidence in a gym. I look and feel the way that i want to and i’m now not worried about going into the free weights area at the gym.
I have a clear program, i know i’m not going to injure myself and importantly, i know i’m that i’m maximising the 4 hours i spend in a gym each week rather than wasting it and feeling completely unsure of what to do or where to start.
following a program and working with my coach meant progress for me in a matter of months that for years i never though i could achieve
What would you say to anyone thinking of joining cmp?
I would say to do it.
The trainers push you but are friendly, approachable and knowledgeable and the gym space is quality!
You’re working alongside other clients too with a broad range of goals, so you get to meet new people and find a place where you’re all in it together!
