I would have never have thought that i could achieve these results at 52!
What were the motivating factors in wanting to achieve these goals?
To be both fitter and in a better all round shape, feeling frustrated that despite actively going to the gym, i wasn’t where i wanted to be.
I’ve always enjoyed going to the gym but have had little direction or understanding of technique and effective programmes alongside nutrition that is achievable long term.
Not just that though, i also wanted to minimise risks at my age due to a family history of heart disease that could be compounded by unhealthy lifestyle choices.
So i wanted to look and feel better but also wanted to focus on my long term health and future.
Both of these goals were really important to me and i didn’t have any more time that i was willing to waste without seeing improvements.
Hi Barry, Would you like to introduce yourself?
Hey, i’m BJ Simmons, 52 years old, Dad of 3 based in Rotherham area.
Why did you reach out to work with CMP, what were your initial goals?
After spotting CMP online in Sheffield and following them and some of the great results I was pleased when I noticed a new gym opening in Rotherham earlier in the year. After a consultation with Chris I decided to join with the goal of losing weight and improve my tone and shape. I’d always trained but never really achieve the level of results that i saw Chris’s clients achieve, so i was intrigued and excited to learn how to get better results.
Can you tell us about the results that you’ve achieved with us?
Over the period I’ve trained with CMP I’ve reduced body fat, maintained and grown muscle and really toned up.
Actually, at 52, i’m in the shape of my life and would have never have thought that i’d be in this condition considering where i started from!
I now feel far more confident in myself and have a much better understanding of what i need to do with training and nutrition to maintain the results i’ve achieved.
what is the biggest thing you’ve learned from your transformation?
It’s really a combination of how to train properly and how to move through different phases to improve my results. I think when you got to the gym alone, you get stuck doing the same exercises for the same reps and sets and you end up just going through the motions.
What i’ve learnt with Chris is that my workouts need to be challenging my body to adapt and every four weeks he changes the program in a way that makes sense. As a result i’m the leanest, strongest and also most muscular that i’ve ever been.
The other thing i’ve learnt from a training point of view is just how far i can actually push myself, again i think when you’re left to your own devices you don’t really give it your all or know how far you can go.
Nutrition has been a complete turnaround for me. I understand calories and macros much better and can feel the differences when my calories are tweaked or something is changed.
I’ve learnt about diet breaks and reverse diets too, which i’d not even heard of before joining CMP and if anything i’ve learnt that getting into shape is as much about eating enough as it is about creating a calorie deficit to lose fat.
It’s been a total education.
I now feel far more confident in myself and have a much better understanding of what i need to do with training and nutrition to maintain the results i’ve achieved.
